    Biculturalism - A Deeper Understanding

    SKU: H-WED_28_AUG_2019
    $290.00Price
    • This course will explore biculturalism through a uniquely Maori lens. It will offer insights into embracing biculturalism, acknowledging varying levels of implementation and significance of practices. A basic framework for integrating biculturalism into Centres and Schools will be established.

      An overview of Te Ao Māori denoting ‘the Māori world’ will be provided, relating to Te Reo (language and dialects), Tikanga (processes and practices), Marae (community focal point), Waahi Tapu (sites of importance) and access to whānau, hapū and iwi.

      Participants will consider and investigate:

      • Local history, background and stories;
      • Celebrating the seasons, relating to māramataka (the calendar);
      • Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi with awareness and integrity;
      • Te Whatu Pōkeka: Kaupapa Maori Asessment for Learning - Early Childhood Exemplars.

      On completion participants will:

      • Have a deeper understanding and knowledge of Te Ao Māori ‘the Maori world’;
      • Be able to define a range of Maori concepts, processes and practices;
      • Confidently create an environment that respects Te Ao Māori and honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
      • Build personal learning, appreciating that feelings of tokenism and symbolism can be extended into well-developed practice.
